Michael J. Canaan, CPP CFLC, provides forensic security management premises liability expert services and litigation support for both plaintiff and defense firms in three categories:
Security: security adequacy; negligent hiring and retention; inadequate supervision and training; excessive or improper use-of-force; personal and executive protection; foreseeability analysis; premises liability matters; industry standards of care; security policies and procedures; and electronic security methodology.
Detection Canine Operations: methodology; deployment; training.
Investigations: internal investigations; employee misconduct; due diligence; stalking; threat analysis; targeted violence mitigation and violence risk management; surveillance; covert video; workplace and personal injury fraud.
Mr. Canaan is an active practitioner in investigative and security management, training, and liability consulting. He has conducted security, threat and risk assessments throughout the US, Canada, Central and South America for individuals and corporations in residences, educational settings, corporate campuses, and large venue events.
In June 1997, the American Society for Industrial Security, International (ASIS) awarded Mr. Canaan the security profession's highest recognition of practitioners, the Certified Protection Professional. This Board Certification in Security Management is based upon experience and passage of examination that provides an objective measure of an individual's broad-based knowledge and competency in security management.
In July 2015, the Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA) awarded Mr. Canaan the Certified Forensic Litigation Consultant (CFLC) designation. The CFLC was established by the Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA) in 2014 for FEWA professional members who have met the eligibility criteria established requiring significant participation in FEWA activities and completion of educational courses in the subjects of forensic analysis, litigation consulting, and expert witnessing.
Since 1977, Mr. Canaan has been an active practitioner in military and civil law enforcement; corporate security and investigations; and working dog operations. He has been President of Trident Investigative Service, Inc. since 1991. Mr. Canaan is a certified instructor in related disciplines and maintains active membership in numerous professional associations. In 2015, Mr. Canaan retired as a Washington State Certified Police Officer and Certified Law Enforcement Narcotics Detector Dog Handler.
